MISSION STATEMENT

    It is the duty of the Auditor's Office to track and audit all office and departments who collect or handle money.
    To review all purchase requests and or expenditures for availability of funds, legality of purchase and correctness of invoice.
    The auditor of a first class county is the Budget Officer.
    The auditor is also the finance advisor to the County Commission.
    The operation is divided into two areas. One department is in charge of financial matters, while the other handles all expenditures.
    The auditor is responsible for filing for state, federal and all other funds due from these agencies.

 
 

FINANCIAL FACTS

  1. Cape Girardeau County has a budget of about $12 million. Eight million of this is the general operation of all county offices, departments and a few agencies not directly within the county structure. Two million dollars of the budget is for roads and bridges and the remaining two million is set aside for capital expenditures.

  2. At this time Cape County tax rate on personal and real property for county use is $0.00. The road & bridge tax rate at this time is .24¢ per $100 assessed valuation.

  3. The main sources of funding for the county operation are the ½% Sales Tax on taxable sales in the county, service fees and reimbursements from other government agencies.
